2026 Nissan X-Trail price: Cheaper hybrids, Rock Creek added for Australia

Shifting customer expectations towards electrified options in the family SUV segment – the largest in Australia – has prompted Nissan to expand its X-Trail e-Power hybrid range.

Due in local Nissan showrooms in September, every 2026 Nissan X-Trail e-Power grade – ST-L, Ti and Ti-L – is now offered in a cheaper front-wheel-drive configuration.

They join the all-wheel-drive versions already on sale, with Nissan Australia yet to introduce a more affordable ST e-Power hybrid grade – or a hybrid seven-seat option, as is offered in Europe.

According to Nissan Australia, "around half of hybrid buyers choose two-wheel drive" in the medium SUV segment in which the X-Trail competes, while "hybrid and electrified powertrains have overtaken petrol and consumers' preferred choice".

However, the brand has also grown its X-Trail range with the addition of the new petrol-only, all-wheel-drive Rock Creek seven-seater, marking the debut of the off-road nameplate in Australia.

It is a replacement for the X-Trail N-Trek offered earlier in the current generation's lifecycle in Australia.

Removing all-wheel-drive capability from the new X-Trail e-Power grades brings price cuts of between $3090 and $3655 compared with the carryover all-wheel-drive counterparts, along with fuel savings.

Combined fuel consumption for the X-Trail e-Power FWD is rated at 5.4L/100km – still higher than an equivalent Toyota RAV4 or Hyundai Tucson – compared with 6.1L/100km for the AWDs.

The combined CO2 emission value has also dropped from 139 grams per kilometre for the AWDs to 123g/km for the FWDs, assisting Nissan Australia in meeting Australia's New Vehicle Efficiency Standard (NVES).

The X-Trail continues to feature Nissan's older second-generation e-Power technology, compared with the third-generation system now offered in the related Qashqai small SUV.

A new-generation X-Trail, which debuted globally earlier this year, is expected in Australia in 2027 or 2028 and will likely introduce Nissan's upgraded, more efficient hybrid system to the family SUV.

Hybrid versions of the current Nissan X-Trail – which have no direct connection from their petrol engine to the wheels, instead solely generating electricity – now start from $45,990 before on-road costs, equivalent to an entry-level Toyota RAV4 GX hybrid.

Meanwhile, the X-Trail Rock Creek is priced from $48,315, $2435 more than the ST-L petrol all-wheel-drive seven-seat grade that it is based on.

Compared with the ST-L AWD, the Rock Creek adds black exterior trim, unique 18-inch alloy wheels with orange accents, Rock Creek badging with orange accents, and an exclusive Baja Storm exterior colour with a two-tone black roof.

It also introduces a unique grille design with a 'three-slot' horizontal element inspired by the D21 Navara ute – a design cue also found across the new D27 Navara range, and in the Patrol Pro-4X Y63.

Inside, the Rock Creek adds the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 10.8-inch head-up display usually exclusive to the Ti and Ti-L flagship grades.

The new grade also features unique "durable" synthetic leather upholstery with Rock Creek badging and orange contrast stitching, as well as an orange Nissan steering wheel badge.

Customer deliveries for the new 2026 Nissan X-Trail e-Power hybrid front-wheel-drive grades and 2026 Nissan X-Trail Rock Creek petrol AWD are due to commence in Australia in September.
