2024-26 Peugeot 2008 recalled in Australia due to fire risk

A potential manufacturing defect in mild-hybrid Peugeot 2008 SUVs could lead to an engine-compartment fire, according to the recall notice.

Nearly 200 examples of the 2024 to 2026 Peugeot 2008 mild-hybrid SUV have been recalled in Australia due to a potential manufacturing defect that could lead to a vehicle fire.

The recall notice, lodged with the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, Sport and the Arts, says there could be an electrical hazard "under wet conditions".

"Due to a manufacturing defect, affected vehicles may have been assembled with insufficient clearance between the gasoline particulate filter pipe and the pole protection cup of the 48V belt starter generator.

"Under wet conditions, this could cause an electrical hazard and lead to overheating resulting in a fire within the engine compartment.

"A vehicle fire increases the risk of serious injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users and/or damage to property."
