2027 Mercedes-Benz GLC EV price and specs: Dearer than BMW iX3, Volvo EX60

The Mercedes-Benz GLC400 EV has been detailed for Australia with higher pricing than an equivalent BMW iX3 and Volvo EX60.

  • 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLC EV pricing and specifications
  • Electric SUV offers 630km driving range, 360kW AWD setup
  • GLC400 4Matic dearer than iX3 50 xDrive, EX60 P10 Ultra
  • Priced from $110,000 before on-road costs

The 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLC EV will arrive in Australian showrooms later this year with a starting price higher than equivalent versions of its new BMW and Volvo rivals.

Priced from $110,000 before on-road costs for a limited-run Launch Edition – or $112,200 for the ongoing version – the GLC EV will be initially limited to the dual-motor all-wheel-drive GLC400 4Matic grade.

It is a rival to dual-motor all-wheel-drive versions of the BMW iX3, the $109,900 iX3 50 xDrive, and the Volvo EX60, the $101,990 EX60 P10 Ultra.

The GLC400 4Matic EV is also $12,383 dearer than the plug-in hybrid Mercedes-Benz GLC350e in Australia.

A more affordable single-motor, rear-wheel-drive version of the GLC EV – unrelated to the petrol and hybrid GLC SUV familiar to Mercedes-Benz buyers – is expected by the middle of next year.

The GLC300+ will give Mercedes-Benz an alternative to the entry-level BMW and Volvo models, which are priced below the Luxury Car Tax (LCT) threshold of $91,661 for fuel-efficient vehicles, making them eligible for the Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) exemption for novated leases.

In dual-motor all-wheel-drive GLC400 4Matic form, the electric SUV develops 360kW and 800Nm, and is matched with a 94.4kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) battery for a 630km WLTP driving range.

For context, the BMW iX3 50 xDrive offers 345kW/645Nm, a 108.7kWh battery, and a WLTP driving range rating of "up to" 805 kilometres.

Meanwhile, the Volvo EX60 P10 Ultra has a 375kW/710Nm dual-motor all-wheel-drive system, along with a 91kWh battery and a 660km WLTP driving range.

In Australia, the GLC400 EV will offer the AMG Line exterior styling package as standard, including 21-inch alloy wheels, and gloss-black accents which "can be omitted at no additional cost".

Standard features include the MBUX Superscreen dashboard with a 14-inch central touchscreen, a 14-inch front passenger touchscreen and a 10.3-inch driver display, synthetic leather-look seats and steering wheel, heated front sports seats, and open-pore birch wood trim.

The GLC400 also features a head-up display, a panoramic glass roof with Sky Control clear-to-opaque mode, heat and noise-insulating window glass, and adaptive LED headlights.

Compared with the standard version, the $2200-cheaper Launch Edition omits the front passenger touchscreen, replacing it with a "static screen" with "customisable high-resolution wallpapers, ambient graphic themes or dynamic branding animations that sync with the car's interior lighting".

Black Artico synthetic leather-look upholstery is also the only choice for the Launch Edition, while the standard GLC400 is offered with black, brown or beige seat upholstery.

Extra-cost options for the standard GLC400 include the Luxury Package, with highlights including a 19-speaker Burmester 4D surround-sound system, massaging front seats and heated outboard rear seats, plus the Agility and Comfort Package, adding air suspension and rear-wheel steering.

The BMW iX3 is not offered with air suspension globally, while it is standard in the EX60 Cross Country, which has yet to be detailed for the Australian market.

The 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLC400 EV is on sale now in Australia, ahead of local showroom arrivals due in the coming months, and more variants set to launch next year.
